Imagine a young actor, just 14 years old, embarking on a journey that would make any seasoned performer envious. Meet Lox Pratt, a rising star with a unique talent and an incredible story to tell.
Lox has landed not one, but two, highly coveted roles that are sure to capture the attention of audiences worldwide. He's about to take center stage as Jack in the highly anticipated BBC adaptation of 'Lord of the Flies', a thrilling tale of survival and the dark side of humanity. But that's not all; he's also stepping into the magical world of Harry Potter, playing the iconic Draco Malfoy in HBO's upcoming series.
Sitting down with Lox via Zoom, it's clear that he embodies the essence of J.K. Rowling's Slytherin antagonist. With his curly blond hair and piercing blue eyes, he could easily be mistaken for a young Tom Felton, the original Draco. The cast, a who's who of British talent, includes Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, alongside fresh faces like Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton, who bring our beloved trio to life.
In his first-ever interview, Lox shares his incredible journey, from running wild on a tropical island in Malaysia to bringing Jack, the complex and captivating character from 'Lord of the Flies', to life. He reflects on his short yet impressive resume, wondering how he managed to achieve so much in such a short time.
For those unfamiliar with William Golding's masterpiece, 'Lord of the Flies' tells the story of a group of schoolboys stranded on a tropical island after a plane crash. As they struggle to maintain their civility, they form a society led by Ralph and supported by the wise Piggy. However, when Jack, played by Lox, becomes obsessed with hunting and power, the group's unity begins to crumble, leading to a tragic descent into savagery.
Lox reveals his inspiration for Jack, drawing parallels to Malcolm McDowell's character in 'A Clockwork Orange' and Tommy Shelby from 'Peaky Blinders'. He discusses the challenges of playing such a complex character, one who is both a leader and a villain, and how he found freedom in exploring Jack's vulnerabilities.
But here's where it gets controversial... Lox hopes that playing Malfoy and Jack won't typecast him as a villain. He believes he's in a unique position, having the opportunity to portray diverse roles early in his career.
Lox shares his thoughts on the incredible cast of 'Lord of the Flies', including his connection with David McKenna, who plays Piggy, and Ike Talbut, who portrays Simon. He recalls the challenging yet rewarding experience of filming in Malaysia, the warm sea, and the strong bonds formed with his castmates.
When asked about his aspirations, Lox reveals his passion for storytelling extends beyond acting. He's already written a screenplay and hopes to pursue screenwriting and directing in the future. He admires the work of Leonardo DiCaprio, James Cameron, and Chloé Zhao, and finds inspiration in their unique approaches to filmmaking.
As for his experience on the Harry Potter set, Lox describes it as a world apart from 'Lord of the Flies'. He praises the amazing vibe on set and his wonderful co-star, Johnny Flynn, who plays Lucius Malfoy.
And this is the part most people miss... Lox acknowledges the potential for typecasting but remains optimistic, believing that his diverse roles will open doors to new and exciting opportunities.
