The yacht "Checkered Past," once owned by retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, is currently docked at the Daytona Marina and is available for purchase. This impressive 112-foot vessel stands as a symbol of Biffle's passion for adventure and reflects his successful NASCAR career that enabled him to acquire such a luxury item several years ago.
However, like many boats, “Checkered Past” has been on the market for over a year, with an asking price of $4.395 million.
Tragically, Biffle, along with his wife and their two young children, was among seven individuals who lost their lives in a private jet crash that occurred on December 18 in Statesville, North Carolina, which is situated north of Charlotte. At the age of 55, Biffle was a celebrated racer, having secured 19 victories in the Cup Series between 2003 and 2016. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
Reflecting on his love for boating, Biffle previously shared in a 2022 interview, "This is truly the boat." He had docked the Checkered Past at a second home in Fort Lauderdale, which he purchased in 2020 but listed for sale in 2022. In an article from the yacht broker Denison Yachting, Biffle reminisced about his lifelong passion for the water, stating, "I bought my first boat when I was 16. I'm an active boater. I love being a part of it. Part of the enjoyment is working on the boat."
Prior to acquiring the Checkered Past, Biffle had owned a 76-foot boat named "In Too Deep". He regarded the Checkered Past as his dream vessel and even devised a three-year financial plan to make the purchase a reality, expressing his disbelief at finally owning such a magnificent yacht: "I never thought I’d be able to buy one. This is truly the boat."
During his career, Biffle's No. 16 Ford team, owned by Jack Roush, amassed approximately $80 million in NASCAR prize money, showcasing the level of success he achieved in the racing world.
Now, the Checkered Past rests at the Daytona Marina, surrounded by various other yachts, just outside the Chart House Restaurant. This marina, along with the nearby Halifax Harbor Marina, is a common docking area for boats belonging to members of the NASCAR community.
The sales listing details that the yacht, constructed in 1999, can host up to eight guests along with four crew members. Measuring 112 feet in length with a beam width of 20 feet, it can navigate waters as shallow as six feet.
Powered by twin MTU diesel engines, each generating 1,800 horsepower, the Checkered Past can achieve a maximum speed of 24 knots. The interior boasts an efficient layout with a spacious salon and dining area, a large country-style kitchen with an adjacent dining banquette, and accommodations for up to eight guests in four staterooms, including a full-beam master suite, a VIP stateroom, and both a double and twin stateroom.
According to a representative at the marina office, the yacht currently belongs to the Biffle estate and is officially for sale.
